MG Motors has recently introduced the Comet EV in India, with an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 7.98 lakh for the three-door variant. The automaker plans to announce prices for additional variants in the near future. The Comet EV is positioned in a unique segment, catering to customers seeking a compact city car.
Starting from April 27, the Comet EV will be available for test drives, with bookings opening on May 15. Deliveries are expected to commence later in the same month.
The MG Comet EV features a single motor that can produce 42hp and 110Nm of torque. It is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system for the driver’s convenience.
The exterior of the MG Comet EV is based on the Wuling Air EV and features a boxy design language with unique elements such as the Extended Horizon connecting lights, a full-width LED light bar, and a strip of chrome and piano black that connects both wing mirrors. The charging port is located at the front, underneath the light bar, and features an illuminated MG logo on the flap.
The Comet EV rides on 12-inch alloy wheels, which are currently the smallest wheels available in the market. It also boasts an asymmetrical window design with vertically mounted rear windows. At the rear, it has the Extended Horizon connecting lights as well. The EV comes in five different colours and offers various graphics packs that are categorised under sticker styles and lit packs.

Powetrain
The MG Comet EV is powered by a single electric motor that delivers 42hp and 110Nm of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels via an automatic gearbox. The car is equipped with a 17.3 kWh battery that is rated for water and dust resistance according to IP67 standards. The battery has been sourced from Tata AutoComp and is capable of providing an ARAI-certified range of 230km. The Comet EV comes with a 3.3kW onboard charger that takes approximately seven hours to charge the battery fully.
In terms of dimensions, the Comet EV measures 2,974mm in length, 1,505mm in width and 1,640mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,010mm. To put its size into perspective, the Alto K10, which is the other small car available in India, is longer than the Comet EV by 556mm.
MG Comet EV competes with other small electric cars in India such as the Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3. These cars are also priced similarly to the Comet EV, with the Tata Tiago EV priced at Rs 8.69 lakh to Rs 11.99 lakh and the Citroen eC3 priced at Rs 11.50 lakh to Rs 12.43 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). However, the Comet EV has a unique boxy design and smaller dimensions compared to these rivals, making it stand out in its own niche segment.
